12 May Hope Is Not A Good Management Strategy
What is your leadership style? Do you tend to have a laissez faire approach? Or do you focus on every small detail? In this week’s moment of clarity, Charlie relays one of the more important lessons imparted on him by his former boss, Chief Jordan, who said “hope is not a good management strategy.”
What does this mean? Well it doesn’t mean micro-manage, but it also doesn’t mean be so free with your staff that they don’t get the work done. A better method is to use President Reagan’s “trust, but verify” with your people. Give them the directive, give them the tools, let them do their job and follow-up to be sure it’s being done to the standards set by your organization.
Tune in to hear Charlie’s take on President Reagan’s famous line and learn a little bit more about how to be a more effective leader.
