Chief Dave Carmichael (Ret.) is an experienced law enforcement leader with a career spanning 29 years.
Dave grew up in San Jose, CA and attended San Jose State University, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Union Institute. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Management, is a graduate of the FBI National Academy (class 242), and holds a California POST Executive Certificate.
His law enforcement career began in 1994 when he joined the Honolulu Police Department. He later returned to the Bay Area and was hired by the Campbell Police Department. Dave enjoyed a variety of assignments and held every sworn rank in the department. In July of 2014, Dave was appointed Chief of Police. During his 5-year tenure as Chief, Campbell PD was widely regarded as an outstanding department with a healthy and strong organizational culture.
Dave retired from Campbell PD at the end of 2019 and moved back to Hawaii. He was provided an opportunity to work with the Kauai Police Department focusing on organizational development and working closely with professional staff at all levels. Dave and his wife, Marietta have been married for over 30 years and have two adult daughters who are both teachers. They reside on the island of Kauai.
